I have a UnixWare 7.1.4 server that is acting as a DNS server. How can I tell if I've configured DNS correctly? It seems to have been working fine, but now that I'm trying to add a new Win 2003 server onto the network, I'm having doubts! I went into scoadmin DNS Manager, and it gave errors such as 'General failure occurred in processing attribute name /etc/inet/named.d/db.mydomain: bad SOA record. I get very confused with DNS, so it's very possible that I did something wrong when I installed it. As I say, are there any tests that would let me check the validity of my settings?

nslookup will work. bring it up in a term window and put in either your ip address or fqdn and it should give you an answer. if not check the settings and try again. Increase logging level to say 5 and monitor when you start up named.
to reload kill -1 pid and read the files. I just did a 600
box and when adding a new computer put the address in wrong
the sys log gave me the line of the problem.
