My story:
- I dual boot Win98 (C:) and Win2K Pro (D:);
- I suspect my D: drive is infected;
- I buy NAV2002 (System Works);
- I try to install;
- Dialog appears, tells me not to install yet if I suspect I'm infected, but to boot from the CD & run NAVDX;
- I reboot from the CD & run NAVDX ...

... but it boots W98 & can't access my D: drive - where I suspect the infection is - 'cuz it's NTFS!! So how can I clean up my D: drive??

Ideas appreciated.

HI.

There are several possible solutions:

* Best solution - if you suspect the NTFS partition, install a new W2K system on the clean FAT32 drive or on another HD, install AV on it, then use it to clean the infected partition.

* Install an NTFS driver on the 98.
The free version will give you read only to scan but not fix the NTFS files.

Thanks for your suggestions, Yizhar ... but do I need to point out (to Symantec, if by any chance they read these) how totally unreasonable they are?

#1 requires that I spend hours partitioning, formatting, installing ... #2 requires that I spend another $50 to get this $50 software to work.

I think my real solution will be: I'm due for a reformat & reinstall anyway (just got XP) ... But why can't the goddamn software just work out of the box as advertised???

Very disappointed ...
