How can I save the layout of my desktop? I am installing and uninstalling software on my system. Sometimes my desktop changes.

Is there a way to save this permanently.

Does it change back when you log off and then back on? If so, it may be a restriction set by the Admin. I do it to people at my job, I don't want them making changes...

Some software puts icons on your desktop - so installing & uninstalling apps is very likely to change your desktop. So, could you supply more details of your system set up and what you want to achieve, please.

Assuming you are user "myname", your Desktop Layout is stored in c:\winnt\profiles\myname\desktop folder. If you have read access to it, you can copy its content somewhere in a safe place on your harddisk. You can then restore it anytime (if you have "change" permision on the c:\winnt\profiles\myname\desktop folder ). Of course any restored desktop icon that points to an (in the meantime) uninstalled or deleted application will not work.
