I need to remove the my Computer Icon and The Recycle bin from my desktop.. How Can I do this ???

I want to know the Rule for doing that,, I don't need the visual Basic Source Code only..

Here is the general rule: read Mike Lacey's faq222-92 on reading and writing registry values, then go to to see which registry keys you need to modify or add, then cross your fingers, hold your breath and pray that you don't trash your Windows installation.

Back up your registry before attempting anything like this.

Download TweakUI from the net. It lets you do loads of useful things to your desktop and settings including removing My Computer, Network Neighbourhood and Recycler.

Hmmm... does it include an API that can be used in Visual Basic?

About TweakUI,, It doesn't contain anything about My Computer Icon,, It contains only options for recycle and Neighbourhood..
It doesn't have any APIs to use in Visual basic...

i think I will make the rest and try to play around through the registry,, Pray For me :))

Another Thing, I went to this opage :
And I tested it.. yeah,It solve my problem and removed every Icon on MyDeskTop except My Computer Icon,, It had never removed.. I want some advice about this.. I really wanna remove this Icon...

hey Alt255 : what is the FAQ222-92 ? where can I find it ? and how can I read it ?

Click on the blue hypertext link. The one that says "faq222-92".

BTW: In order to hide the "My Computer" icon you have to hide each of the applets in my computer, including the drive icons. Use
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
and Set NoDrives to 67108863 to hide the drive icons.

Now wait a minute... before you start taking such large whacks at the registry you should have a contingency plan for restoring a good registry backup from MS-DOS. One bad write to the registry can prevent you from starting your application, regedit or even Windows. And, short of restoring a backup, its hard to fix a registry problem outside of Windows. (Even if you do, Windows probably won't work up to snuff.)

I wrote a small registry "Ooops! Now I did it!" recovery utility that runs even when Windows won't start. Note that this does not work with copies of the registry... it attempts to fix the bad reg values that prevent you starting Windows, Poledit or Regedit. It's still in beta but you are welcome to try it if you give me an address where I can send it. Don't include your e-mail address in the body of a post (Tek-Tips management takes a dim view of that practice). Go to ... you will find an email address on the last page. Send me an address from there.
