Hi,
My Database/Tuxedo has been set up. The SMTP sendmail runs, I made several tests with telnet my_smtp_machine 25 without problems: I can send e-mails.

Then I submit a job (Employee Birthdays), which should send a .pdf file to a Peoplesoft user. The .pdf report was created but I cannot get the E-mail.
I got this message

The SQR report was generated. However, the attempt to email the report was unsuccessful. Verify all the email parameters (i.e. email address) are valid. Also, validate the SMTP parameters specified in the Process Scheduler configuration file are valid.

What is wrong with my settings?

Kind regards,
Quan

Well, you really shouldn't have a problem with sending your mail internally. I am not a ppsoft admin but I admin the network and mail. Right now I have almost the same problem but internal mail goes fine. Going outside though the Exchange internet mail connector(IMC) is different.

Here it goes, I'm going to cliff note and hope you understand the concepts, if not I can answer questions.

1. Our Internal mail uses exchange 5.5, internal sites talk via X.400. (how does yours work?)

2. My Exchange IMC will not relay EXTERNAL SMTP email from the pplsoft server which is on the same domain and subnet. (Possibly irrelevant but fyi: our configuration uses the 'specify hosts and ips to internal servers and exchange sites added to routing restrictions allow list and still won't deliver)

3. The configuration file that I was given was appsrv.cfg or .ini, I think that was the name of it. I'm not at work so I have to remember what it was.
it had a place to put
SMTP Server which would be the address of your mail server
PORT 25 of course
Sending address - use a internal email
SMTP server 2 (I think) left blank
and possibly another irrelevant line.
If that configuration sounds familiar, make sure you set the stuff up right. Regardless of your type of mail server, UNIX Exchange or what have you, peoplesoft email is going through your mail server as if it was (and it is) Relay. If you don't admin your email server, talk to your email... it wont go anywhere until then. Also, if your not using exchange or x.400 for internal users then there is more of a chance your having relay problems. That is if you ARE having that issue.... you could just have it configured wrong ;)

Also, I'm not sure how people soft is trying to send and my pplsoft admins don't know either. So, what I told them was to check various port issues. SSL to a mail server not accepting it? IIS using your SMTP port? Going through a firewall? Using port restrictions on the server(s)?

Bunch of things but those two things, cfg, mail relay issue, port problems.

Unfortunately for me I still have problems trying to get through my own mail server because of it's really messed configuration. You will see the errors on the mail server (with proper logging levels). If it's on the people soft side then your on your own!

I have more things that I could probably tell ya but I may be way off track since I have limited information on your problem. Your error message, however, sounds familiar

hope that helped a bit

I assume that you added and email client on the apps server.

I am also assuming that you setup your TUXADM within the PeopleSoft user profile with the same email address as that configured in the email server. PeopleSoft needs to know where to send from just as well as where to send to.

My pplsoft admins say they don't need to have mail client on the server and that all their settings are correct.

This is what *I* see when I test using the limited information I have...

Connection to self service Addresses to change my mailing address: =========
Change my address and hit save and get a dialog error:
SMTP sendMail failed (server 172.24.10.25:25). Cannot send mail to "myemailaddress@cox.net". (80.2)
and some more text saying general info about how to send SMTP.
-----------------
I hit OK and another dialog error comes up
Error when attempting to trigger Business Process / event: SELF_SERVICE_HRMS / Email Benefits Notification (67,2)
There is a problem in calling TriggerBusinessEvent for the indicated BusinessProcess/Event
Review the program for errors. If necessary, run a PeopleCode trace to determine the program that failed.
--------------

Then I hit OK and another dialog error:
TriggerBusinessEvent failed for SELF_SERVICE_HRMS.TW_SELF_SERVICE_ADDRESS_CHANGE-Email Benefits Notification. (2,302)
At ADDRESS_SBR.COUNTRY.Workflow PCPC:3663 Statemebt:28

The PeopleCode TriggerBusinessEvent built-in function was used by the specified PeopleCode program and failed to execute correctly on the client workstation.
---------

This is in a file called psappsrv.cfg which I am guessing is the file it is using and its in ..\appserv\hs80 folder on the people soft server.

----------------------------

There are SO many directories and stuff on this peoplesoft server that I have NO IDEA where to begin and I am NOT getting cooperation from my peoplesoft admins.

Can ANYONE tell me where the errors for mail thing is located?
Does it use Internet Information Services SMTP to send mail??? If not, what?
Is there another place that these configurations sit?

PLEASE HELP?

Thank you...

"frustrated non-ppsoft admin"

Hi,
I should have defined the SMTP when I configured the Tuxedo Application Server and when I configured the Tuxedo Process Scheduler. Once done, everything works flawlessly.
Kind regards,
Quan

Just in case anyone is reading this thread and would like to hear the resolution.

It wasn't my exchange server at all... it was their own configuration. I think they said it was from the tux gui, they put in 2 email address's but did not seperate them.....someone@someone.comsomeoneesle@someone.com
doesn't work well!

Hello....
I have a similar problem with psmail. My sqr works properly by sending the email along with the file attachment, however, the file is not in ASCII format. Is there someway to convert the file to ASCII in UNIX prior to sending it via email?

Thanks
Dave
