We recently had an "all-employee" conference call by the CEO and it caused an "all trunks busy" condition for 3 of our locations. We are not using SIP Trunking and each location is trunked based on typical usage. A communications is sent to staff to either attend the meeting in person or to call a conference number. Although employees are encouraged to go to a conference room with others for the call, the issue is that we have too many people that stay at their desk and then call into the conference and take a trunk for the duration of the call. Are there any ways to get multiple users to call into a single connection without each tying up a trunk ? We are an Avaya IP shop, CM 5.2.1

Frankly, this is your problem. I suspect that trying to use technology to resolve this will be significantly harder than asking HR to mandate people use a conference room for this sort of call.

That being said, you could get 5 people to join another handset's access to the main call by using the CM inbuilt conference ability, but this would require training and co-ordination.

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

There are several solutions here are a few that I can think of.

Only allow conference room phones to call the number.
Put a conference bridge on your network so you use no PSTN trunks.
Buy more PSTN trunks
Busy non conference rooms phones that you see off hook during the all hands call.

you could remove some of the channels out of the trunk groups on all the site temporarily when you have these calls, pain in the ass but it will free trunks up for incoming.

sorry forgot to mention creating a new trunk group for these removed channels, and not including in any route patterns
