I personally prefer the Cisco books, as they tend to be very in-depth and cover the material thoroughly (although this is not always the case, especially with some of the CCNP books). Other people prefer Sybex or other publishers. Get down to your local technical bookshop and browse through them. Ask here if you're not sure which ones are good for you.
You will also need to get some hands-on experience with Cisco gear - either with simulators or the real stuff.
