I am supremely annoyed by my vista os that will not stay asleep. I have gone through the common things in power management and tried every possible scenario. The problem is that when the computer goes to sleep, it wakes up in like 5 minutes or less. I have checked that it isn't the optical mouse moving or anything like that, nothing is making it vibrate.

Is it possible that a program is starting up and running and that is what wakes it up? Norton or SpySweeper? Maybe some service or process in vista. I don't think I have any malware currently on my system. Has anyone ever heard of something like this?

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful. I can't find help anywhere.

thanks...

See if these old XP threads give you clues as what to look for?

I checked in the Bios/Cmos to no avail. I didn't see anything that refers to waking on network activity.

I am going to try out the threads linney posted...

Thanks linney, all I had to do was go into my network adapter in Device Manager and disable "wakeonLAN fom power off".

A simple fix. Now I know. Thanks very much!!!

Darn it, Linney... you beat me to that one! <LOL> That was going to be my first suggestion (Wake on lan)

How am I ever going to knock you down from the top of the MVP list if you always beat me to the answer? [rofl]

gbaughma,

Great minds, think alike, or so they say, only my mind is not as great as it used to be, if it ever was in the first place, that is? So there is plenty of hope for you to achieve your wishes.
