I have a huge problem with users sucking up all the space on our file server and wanted to know how I could find out which user(s) is sucking up all that space and which files are sucking it all up. Is there some sort of auditing program I can use to find this out or would I be able to find this out through AD or some other MSFT product? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can enable disk quotas to report only on the amount of files that belong to each user.

I can't. Our file server is on a win2000 box. If I enabled disk quota on one of our win 2003 boxes would that only affect the shared folder that I would like to limit the amount of space a user can have or would it limit their overall space to what they can have on the entire drive?

You can use quotas on Windows 2000. The 2000 and 2003 quota system is per volume and calculated by file ownership, you could set it to report only to start with then decide what limit to set. You can then set it to warn you when a user reaches a certain level and then deny then any more space when they reach another level.

The Windows 2003 R2 quota software is improved and will allow you to set limits in individual shares.

This sounds interesting. I think I'll play around with this and see how it works. I'll report the results. Thanks, porkchop! LOL...cool name.

It's not ideal software but it will help you pickup the worst offenders and you can then tackle them head on, verbally of course ;-)
