Hi,

I have a database which is stored in Oracle8i and all the client machines are running Oracle9. My problem is that i do not have access to the server and must use one of the client machines to export the database using the "exp" command.

I am getting the following error:
EXP-00056: ORACLE error 942 encountered
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully

I have also run the catexp.sql given with oracle9 but after reading that it seems to be for the opposite scenario, exporting an oracle9 database using an Oracle8i client.

Is there a script I can run that will create the missing Oracle9 views on the Oracle8i database?

The export MUST be done with the version of EXP that matches the version of the database involved..So you need to use the 8i client export..( the 9i IMP will be able to use it, however)
If you no longer have the disks ( and cannot get to the server's or the server admin will not loan you the CD) you will need to download the Oracle 8i software from ( register, its free)and install the client part in a new Oracle_Home directory..

Not a pretty task, since only the whole 8i package, and not just the client, is available.

Argh! Thats the answer I didn't want to hear! Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I got the same error message on the SERVER with Oracle 9.2.0.1, when exporting the database. Does anybody know why?

Thanks,
Lydia

If I am not completely mistaken then the key here is the user account that you used to connect: that account doesn't seem to have select privileges on the table that you want to export.

If you have the choice then use another account that does have those privileges or let them be granted to you.
