I am new to cognos. My company want to extract certain data out from cube. But we don't want to go through the process with cognos to create report and format into CVS files. We would like to have an automatic way so that it queries through cube directly and grab out the data. Is cognos Macro able to do this?
Obviously, we can use the original iqd queries to crawl directly from database, but this is tedious too. Since cube has already stored the aggregated and calculated summary level data, it is better we can use the data directly from cube.
Thank you all.

Frincy,

The easiest way is to create the report and save it as CSV or other format. That to me sounds easy and not tedious. The other thing you can do is aggreate the data through ETL processes directly in your database. Then you just extract data with whatever tools you have in your DBMS system.

Jim,
Thanks your reply. You remind me that I should run some Macro offline to generate reports and save it as CSV automatically. Since there are tons of different reports scheduled at different times, so it is still tedious if one repeats this manually.
Aggregating the data through ETL is getting more effort, the data has gone through complicated calculation when building the cube, so we want to use the data out of pocket rather than calculate again through ETL.
Have you seen some samples of creating reports through macro?
Thanks
