hello!

i just goy a new 250GB HD and want to format my old HD that have 2 partition on him C and D. i also want to join them into one big driver.

does XP has a built in tool for that purpose? if the answer is No, does anyone know a free software to do that?

one more thing, i bought a 250GB HD but window show me only 232 GB, is something wrong with the HD?

10Q!!

XP's Disk Management can delete your old partitions and create one or more new ones. Be aware that XP has a built in restriction of maximum 32GB FAT32 partitions.

Drives are advertised using base 10 arithmetic while tools within operating systems use binary.

So in base 10, 250GB = 10**9 = 250,000,000,000
divide this by a binary equivalent gigabyte, known as a gibibyte (1024**3 = 1,073,741,824 bytes) and you get 230.82 which is what you are seeing.

See Consumer Confusion section here:
also look at Gibibyte

10Q very much for you'r answer!

what do you mean "Be aware that XP has a built in restriction of maximum 32GB FAT32 partitions. "

i have SP2 and for now i have 2 hard drives
my old one 80 GB splite into 2 partitions 50GB and 30GB and the new one is 250GB, so i dont get you...
mabye it has something to do with NTFS? coz i selected NTFS for every drive when i formated it.

10Q again!

FAT32 and NTFS are two different file systems. For reasons known only by Microsoft, their implementation of FAT32 restricts formatting of partitions to 32GB or less. NTFS has no such restriction. I warned you of the restriction to save you some possible headaches. XP will support FAT32 partitions greater than 32GB, just not create and format them for you.
