how can I copy a javascript variable into a JSP variable?

I need to copy a javascript variable into a JSP variable. Does anyone know how I can do that and if it's possible?

Use javascript to send the value to a hidden field, then retrieve in jsp w/ request.getParameter(---fieldname---);

Thanks talkingstone, but I need to do it inside one jsp page. I mean, I can copy jsp variables into javascript variables with <%= ...%> but I don't know how to do it from javascript to jsp.
