How can I change the order in which my e-mail accounts are checked for mail ?
I use OE 6, and the "SET ORDER" box is grayed out. What's the point of it being there if you can't use it ???
No. I have 9 e-mail accounts running on this machine, coming in from 3 separate servers. No Hotmail account. Still the SET ORDER box is grayed out. I have even tried removing the accounts and adding them back one by one in the order I want, but they just reset to a jumbled order.
Not sure about the Set Order box, however, to resolve your problem refer to MS Q224416:
SUMMARY
Outlook Express synchronizes mail accounts alphabetically based on the "friendly name" of the accounts. To change the order in which the accounts are checked for new messages, rename one or more of the accounts. This can be helpful if you have a mail server that takes a long time to download messages.
MORE INFORMATION
To change a mail account's friendly name:
In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
Click the Mail tab.
Click the account whose name you want to change.
Click Properties.
On the General tab, type the new friendly name for the account in the Mail Account box. t
Click OK.
Now that I'm home and using OE, I checked my machine. I hate to tell you this, but nnaxor's right, even though that article doesn't refer to OE6.
Try this - when looking at the mail accounts tab, click the "?" near the X (close) button, then click on the grayed out 'sort order'. The result: Click to set the order in which directory services are searched when validating e-mail addresses
Go to the directory services tab and you will find the button enabled. Apparently, it doesn't apply to mail accounts.
I have renamed the "Friendly" names in the order I want them checked. But they are STILL checked out of order.
Smah,
Not quite sure waht the directory services do. I can see that the sort order is not greyed out there but does that alter the settings for the mail accounts ?
I think that the directory services are used for locateing e-mail address, but I'm not sure either. In any event, the 'Set Order' button does not apply to e-mail accounts, only directory services.
