How can I change BMP to JPEG files in one step.

I have a large number of BMP files that I need to change to JPEG files on an XP Home Computer. I'm currently opening each BMP file one at a time with 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer' and saving as a JPEG file and deleting the BMP file. What is the quickest way to change them all to JPEG files?

There are many shareware graphic programs that can be used to do this. Lviewpro, allows you to select all BMP files in a directory, and convert them to a variety of formats.

Paint Shop Pro also does a Batch Conversion, where you specify the output file location and format.

I question why you would delete your BMP file being that JPG is lossy.
