Hi,

How do I disable onboard VGA on ASUS A7N266-VM Motherboard, so that I can use other PCI VGA card?
In the BIOS, the possible options for "Primary VGA BIOS" are "AGP VGA Card" and "Onbaord VGA"
I tried both the options. It doesn't help.
If the PCI card is put in the slot and the Monitor is connected to it, Monitor is not getting any signal from the PCI Card. Monitor shows completely blank.
Any help is highly appreciated.

Thank you
Leena M

If you use Device Manager to disable (not uninstall) the on-board display adapter, Windows will begin using the PCI adapter. You will not see any of the BIOS splash screens unless you move the cable. You may have to make the slot the PCI adapter is placed in as Bus Mastering, and if there is the selection, you should indicate that it has an option ROM.

The Asus web site should be examined, as usually there is a small option jumper to disable on-board video. This jumper is typicly not present in OEM versions of their motherboards.

I looked into ASUS site and into the prodcut manual, it didn't help. My assumption is that this particular motherboard does not support PCI VGA Cards.
Do you have any idea whether this board will support PCI VGA Cards ?

Try removing the device from the device manager in the control panel, then stick a VGA card in the slot and turn the computer back on. You might have to also set a jumper. A lot depends if you are set to jumper free mode or not.

These are suggestions only. You could have to download a different bios or use the CD that came with the motherboard to update the chipset drivers or some other such thing. You must realize that VGA is essential to a computer being able to run any diagnostic or for you to be able to see the input/output.

Before I would do anything I would download the motherboard manual from the Asus website. Before you completely disable all your video you probably have to install the driver for the new VGA card. before you get it to stop working you need the driver installed for the new card. You might be able to install the video card set the MB to jumper free mode and just turn the computer off and back on.

If all else fails, reset the BIOS.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

There are 4 BIOS updates available for this board. But, none of them has any support for this feature.
I think the problem is the BIOS/Compatiblity. Because, when the Monitor is connected to the Card and the PC is powered on, tehre is no signal to the Monitor. Monitor is completely blank with LED in Orange color.
I was trying to install Solrais 8 on this machine, that's why I tried putting a compatible PCI VGA card, because Solaris doesn't support this onboard VGA.
Do you have any idea how can I get Solaris graphics on this machine.
