There is an NT network already running in our office.....is it possible to connect a Win 98 based PC to the network ??

Shouldn't be any problem. We run an NT4.0 network with mostly 98 clients. Just make sure you specify the correct I.P. settings when youre setting it up. Is there a specific problem you're having getting a 98 station to join?

No we run 98 machines fine here on an NT network. Just ensure you have Client for Microsoft Networks installed under network properties and TCP/IP. Then put in your Domain Name you should be good to go.

Good luck :)

Put your Domain name into the workgroup name as well. (under identification tab: network props)
This will let you browse the network.

But as long as you specify the domain name under Client for MS Networks, you should at least be able to log on to the NT domain. ________________________________________

Connecting a Win98 client to a NT4 Server network is not difficult, if your NIC is installed you should have a "Network Neighborhood" icon on the desktop of the client

R/Click on this and select properties, set the following;
Access control tab;
Tick "user level access control" and
Tick "Obtain a list of users and Groups" from
[enter the name of your NT4 Domain]

Identification Tab;
Give your computer a unique name here
Workgroup; [enter the name of your NT4 Domain]

configuration Tab;
Make sure you use "Client for Microsoft Networks"
double click on this and tick;
"Log on to a Windows Domain"
[enter the name of your NT4 Domain]
click the radio button "Logon and restore network connections"
Double-Click on to the entry for your NIC with the TCP/IP and select an IP address (or DHCP)
DNS settings
and Default Gateway

Finally click on "File and printer sharing and tick the two boxes, after a reboot you should be on the network, if not try Pinging the server IP address, if this works check the above settings again
