Hi,

1.) How can find out which DC of ours is the Schema & FSMO master?

2.) If the main DC with these roles goes down and never comes back up what whill happen?

Thanks for your time

Andy

1. For schema master, register schmmgmt.dll, then crate an mmc that has the schema management snap in. For PDC, Infrastructure and RID, ADUC right click on the domain name and operations masters. For Domain naming it's Domains & trusts.

Or do it the easy way & run DCdiag.

2. You'll need to sieze the roles on a surviving DC.

Thanks, how would I seize roles on an existing DC?

Andy

The easiest way to see the FSMO role holders is to run "netdom query fsmo" from the command line. netdom is included with the Windows 2000 support tools on the Windows 2000 Server CD.

If you are running a server, you should have these tools installed anyway.

How do I "For schema master, register schmmgmt.dll"?

Thanks

Andy
