Hi All,

I have some cassette tapes that I would like to copy over from a cassette recorder to my powerbook so that I can burn a dvd. I have attached a cable from "line-out" of the cassette-corder to the "audio-in" of the powerbook. I know that the sound is coming in, because the "Input Level LED" of the "Sound" window shows that sound is coming in. How do I "capture" this sound? I have tried the "Midi-Setup" but I could not get that to work. Do I need some sort of software?

Thank you,

-Joe

I bought imic for this purpose. It connects thru usb and is perfect and has reasonable software too. A moderate price for such a tool.

Time is what you make of it.

I adore this question, I want to do the same. I understand the software portion, but how do I connect a tape player to my mac?
thank you

Well, there are a few things you have to consider first.

1.) How cheap is your player? This is not a dig as it will affect the playback into the Mac. Cheaper models have thinner frequency ranges so you lose some of the sound, primarily in the lows and highs.

2.) Does your player have a headphones jack? If its got the standard little jack then you can just get a wire from Radio Shack or wherever that has stereo to stereo plugs and go to the line in on your mac. Remember that the mic plug on a mac is MONO so you will lose the stereo if you use that.

Other than that, my latest bit of PC software is Magix Audio Cleaner 2005 which works really well. Don't know about a Mac version as I haven't used my Mac for that purpose yet. (no idea why)

soundforge is a good one for cleaning up hiss and feeback from audio tape and vinyl ona recording!! make sure you get version 6.0 though..earlier versions wern't up to sratch
