How can a user enter a month name in a date field

Hello
I have a date field, but since a user will be entering monthwise data only, how can i make him enter a month (they dont wnat to type out a date) and for it to save as the last date of that month? They will be entering data for prev months as well or else I would have had a field withc date() and formatted as month, but they need to be able to enter any months data, they just dont want to type out the full date every time. Can I give them a combo box with months and years as choices, everything from the current month and before?

Why not just store month and year?
