I have a client who uses digital phones with cls = poa, a06. They are having some issues with conference calls. They will have 3 people on different phones use the same line - ie x8442. How many people can they conference with 3 users on the same line? both internal and external?

What is counted when you look at AO6 -- 6 what?

thanks in advance,

6 connections, your phone plus 5 more

If you want to bridge a lot of internal callers together, give them all the same DN KEY, and one analog TN with that DN, then you can have 30 people inside your PBX on the same call, but you can run out of conference channels. On a big switch, this is done often enough, such as in "the morning call" at a brokerage. You just add more conference loops to accommodate it.

What does the analog tn have to do with allowing so many people on a conference call? I know I am missing something in this setup but it sounds like something I would love to try!

Let's say you have 20 phones with the same "SCR 1234" key. Unless you give everyone CLS POA, they will not be able to just click into the call. If you add an analog TN with "DN 1234", privacy is killed and nobody will need POA... they can just enter the call at any time.

POA = Privacy Override. But an analog appearance of a DN removes privacy, eliminating the need for POA.

With POA, you have to worry about users entering their bosses calls or other calls they should not be able to break into.

There's the rub. Boss wants assistants to listen in on calls so all 20 phones would have poa. So with that said, could 5 phones, on the same line with poa get on a conference call with 2 external callers and if so what would the count be? Or are we back to 6 "phones" nomatter what kind of line they are using?

There is a conference bridge in their future but I am just trying to figure things out for now.
thanks

You start the conference on the "shared line", adding all outside parties. Then when established, tell the other 4 or 5 phones with that line to press in on that line. It will work.
