Hello

Netbackup version 6.0MP4

Senario: I need to run a backup every hour on the hour and the backup lasts for about 25 minutes. I've created the job and set the frequency to 1 hour.

Problem: After the first backup ends Netbackup schedule the next backup for one hour after that end time and not an hour after the start. I can see the logic in this as Netbackup does not know how long the backup will last and so schedule the next backup time an hour after the end.

Question: Is there a way to create ONE backup policy to run every hour on the hour? (I hope I've not missed something really obvious in the policy configuration!!!)

Thanks

I forgot to add that when schedules for 'daily' policies are implemented they start at the same time each day. Is this because they start and finish on the same day, so the scheduler takes the next starting time on the next day?

I think if you setup a user initiated backup in scheduled task or cron to run every hour it will work. That is one thing that would be nice if NBU had the option to do minutes also since in your case the next backup will only run after one hour of the completion of the last backup in the policy.

Setup a policy/schedule

Make the windows wide open- Sun-Sun 0:00-0:00
Duration would be 7days 0:00

Attributes tab- Make it a frequency schedule and schedule it for every hour.

OK...heres a real guru type of solution. Try using the command /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpplschedrep. Carefully checkout the man page for it and experiment. However, I do think this will work. Use the -freq 1800

That will set the frequency to 30 minutes (60 * 30)

cool?

Just because the VERITAS documentation states something as certain, that does not make it a fact and that is truth.

Hello

Vela - I've tried your solution, but the next schedule occurs one hour after the previous job ends and not from the original start time. e.g. Job starts at 9:00, ends at 9:15, next job starts at 9:15 - and so on.

Stumpr - I forgot to mention that we are running on an Intel platform so can't use your option.

Thanks foe the responses so far.

What's Intel got to do with it?
simply change the forward slashes to back slashes

cd $INSTALL_DIR\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd
where $INSTALL_DIR usually is D:\Program Files\

then run bpplschedrep

don't give up just because you have a lame OS ;-)

This manual contains most of the commands available for window servers. Most all of the commands you will see in user forums in UNIX style format are also available for windows.

Stumpr - I tried the 'bpplschedrep' program and it solved the problem.

After running the command and checking the policy it looked no different to the manually created schedule that fails to run correctly. Please can you explan this to me and what 'bpplschedrep' stands for? I think I can work out the 'SCHEDREP' part, but what about 'BPPL'?

Thanks

bp = backup plus which was a former Control Data Corp product

pl = policy listing

VERITAS Software changed their naming conventions in order to be more polically correct. A policy used to be called a class and you may see some of the older versions having commands like bpclschedrep

I was glad to hear that you did some experimenting. Don't be concerned about breaking anything because there always is the capability of bprestore.

Thanks for the purple star!

Now that you have been introduced to the powerfull CLI of NetBackup, please feel free to post new questions as you grow.
