I have an end user getting this error when he hotsyncs w/ lotus notes using his palm vx.

I had the user delete the message out of the palm and on the desktop. Then, he ran another hotsync, but the error came back up. After that, I ran a sync w/ out synchronizing mail and the error persisted. Any ideas? The palm website was pretty worthless.

What version of Notes? R5 R4?

I do not have great news for you...it really is not a Palm problem but an EasySync problem. You know, that nasty add on sync software from Lotus/IBM which does not work well.

From what I can see...and it is an ongoing problem, rep[eating calendar entries and calendar entries with tons of Text in the remarks field, cause the error. I am sure that some subtle template differences are also causing the errors as well...hidden deep in the code.

You can try some simple fixes to see if it resolves itself...but....be forewarned....some of this could cause duplication and / or deletion of some items in the Notes database. I would suggest doing a complete replication of the data to the local drive so that you can recover from the good replikca without restoring from a previous date on the server.

***If Palm data is critical to the user, and not replicated elsewhere...you may also want to use a tool called Backup Buddy to save data from the Palm. use Google or other search engine for the download. (Not always free but many allow trial free use.)

Go to the Palm directory, under the user's name, and re-name the PDAMAP.NSF file to PDAMAP.old. Do this in the folder that is generating the error, ie: mail, calendar, etc. This name change forces a renewal of the data in the palm. Now..before you try to sync...go to the Hotsync settings button and set "Desktop Overwrites handheld" to try to avoid Notes duplication and deletion errors.

What version of EasySync are you using? 3.0a or the newer professional? If Professional, go into the specific settings for mail and calendar, experiment with setting the retrieve scope to 1 wqeek back and 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 weeks, etc ahead. Sometimes this will avoid problem messages and instead of getting unexpected error messages you will get the actual offending article.

Your Log file points to an offending calendar entry...deleting this will allow sync to continue...just to the next offending item.

There is also other synchronizing software available, use google search, that directly resolve repeating calendar entries such as this.; Cost is minimal...however...when trying to standardize on business software..it would be prudent to avoid all the other pieces in hopes that IBM and Lotus will re-engineer the product and produce solutions.

Good Luck

We use Xtend-Connect and it works like a charm ....

Try It
