hotsync not working because outlook not default mail client

I am receiving an error message when I try to sync my Palm V to outlook (2K pro) saying outlook is not my default mail client, so it isn't syncing anything. It has always worked in the past until recently when I upgraded from office 2K small business to 2K professional.

Anyone here know how to set outlook at your "default mail client"?

Did you check if outlook IS your default mail client?
Open IE, click on Tools, Internet Options. Click on page PROGRAMS, see if O2K is mentioned.

Yes actually I have checked this. It is already designated as the default mail client. That's why this glich is so confusing to me. Now its added another complication - it is allowing me to resetup the outlook configurations so I can select a "user" that is also assigned to hotsync, but each time I try it gives me the error msg "not a default mail client" again.

I assume you also set Outlook 2002 as default mail conduit?
