HotSync not sync-ing 1

Hi,

I've been using my Palm m500 and HotSync-ing with no problem until recently.

First, about 3 weeks ago, the HotSync just caused all my Memo notes to be shifted to the Unfiled folder. But nothing was deleted...just that it threw off all my filing.

But then the more serious problem. Since that incident, now my HotSync doesn't seem to work. It performs the HotSync and doesn't report any errors, but when I check my data, nothing is sync-ed. I've checked the Settings to make sure it is set on "Sychronize all files". I've even tried the "Desktop overwrites Handheld" and "Handheld overwrites Desktop" settings, but nothing syncs to anything.

My memory is okay. I've got enough.

Could someone help please?

THanks.

Check out thread601-553761 just in case that may be the cause of the problem.

Cheers

Thanks BeerGood. But I don't think my problem is as complicated.

I just discovered that it syncs with my Palm Desktop instead of my Outlook 2000. How can I switch it back to sync with OUtlook? I don't see any option to change the setting, and I didn't change any setting to switch it to Palm Desktop in the first place.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

By default the Palm desktop software doesn't know how to sync with Outlook - instead there is some other software supplied with your Palm called "Pocket Mirror" that works in conjunction with the Palm Desktop software.

My guess would be you perhaps installed an update to the Palm desktop software that's overwritten your defaults so it's no longer using the (Pocket Mirror) Outlook conduit software? Or perhaps some other "palm aware" software has been installed that has confused things. Hunt around for "Pocket Mirror" in your start/program menu and see if you can configure it there. If not, the easiest "solution" may be to uninstall all the Palm software from your pc and then reinstall from the CD - sounds harsh, but it should work....

Cheers

Beergood,

Thanks for yr reply. I tried looking for Pocket Mirror but can't find it. Actually I don't recall every having it, and it's not on my Palm Desktop software CD-ROM. I tried looking for a free download on the web and found it is selling for $49.

So I wanted to follow your second advice to reinstall the Palm software. But I can't seem to uninstall my palm software cos it doesn't appear in my Add/Remove Programs list. And when I try to install from the CD (without uninstalling it), I get runtime errors during the install process which prevent me from installing it.

Can you suggest anything else? Thanks so much!

Yeah - you need to fork out money for the software, but it does come on the CD(s) with your Palm. When you do the install, it would ask if you want to sync with Outlook and if you said "you betcha" then it would spawn the Pocket Mirror install - so as far as you were concerned you were just installing the Palm software but unawares were also installing the Pocket Mirror stuff!

Anyhow, see if there's anything in the Start/Programs/[Palm/PocketMirror] groups to install/unistall the software (I've got an older Palm so can't tell you where exactly they might be). Also, what version o/s are you running? If XP/Win2k make sure you're logged on with administrator rights before trying the install/uninstall tango.

Lastly, if the above fails, try copying the contents of the CD into a directory on your hard drive, and then run it from there in case there's a problem with reading from the CD drive. (You can also hunt for the pocket mirror software on the CD and - assuming you find it - just try installing that by itself).

Cheers

BeerGood, I'll try what you suggested. You've really been very patient and helpful. THANKS! :)

Only hope I've been of some help as I know how annoying it was when my Palm wasn't syncing - good luck & let us know if any of it works! Cheers.

The Palm Desktop software is available on the Palm website also based on the unit you have. I believe the install gives you options to sync to Outlook when you install.
