Hi.

Palm desktop is running on my XP Pro machine (HotSync Manager starts at startup). My handheld is an Alphasmart's DANA with Palm OS v4.0.

It has been sync-ing fine for the last couple of month but yesterday, it starts to give me error on the first sync.

"The connection between your desktop and handheld was lost. Some of your data was not backup. Please check your setup and try again."

HotSync Manager on my PC indicated the operation is done but my handheld would keep going and then give me the above error.

My temp. solution is to exit HotSync on my computer, restart it and sync again.

But it would be nice for it to work the first time.

I tried switching USB cable, reinstalling Palm Desktop on my pc and also software on my handheld. But no luck. Before this error, I have made NO change to my PC config/software/hardware and my handheld.

Thanks.

I am experiencing similar problem -- namely cannot get my Palm Vx to hot sync with my Toshiba laptop, now that I am using XP Pro? It seems as though the Palm devise is sending out a signal to the laptop, but the connection is never made. I downloaded a zipped patch from Palm, but it would not install -- missing CMDS21.dll

I would like to know if anyone can help to solve this problem.

Thanks,

Check the following:
1) Is the hotsynch application running? (You can check this by watching if its icon is present in the lower right corner of your screen.
2) Check if the correct type of interface is configured to synch with your palm-device by right-clicking your hotsynch icon and check if serial, usb or both are marked. A common problem is that both of those is marked. Only ONE (1) should be marked (one or the other). Choose the correct interface for your hotsynch cradle.
3) If your device is using the serial port, try switching between COM1 and COM2 and retry to synch afterwards.

Let me know if it works :)
