Hotdesk short code not working 1

Hi All, I have a hotdesk user whose login I somehow messed up. It had been set up so that he used a shortcode and all he had to do was go to any phone and hit #434 and he would be logged in, then *36 to logout. I would like that to continue, BUT silly me delelted the short code and now I can't get a new one to work.

I set the shortcode up as #434*1234 (1234 is the login code set in his user "telephony" settings), the feature as extn login, and the telephone number as 434, but it won't work. I know it is a simple question, but I really, truly, don't want to talk to my BP.

Thanks, Dawn

tlpeter! THANK YOU!! You saved me a call to the BP, that's worth a star any day!

Dawn,

You could have loaded an old backup into the manager. Look what the shortcode was a month ago.
Close the old backup file, open the real thing and enter the shortcode.

But then again TLPeter is always there!

Just pointing you in a direction that most of us use. Before any alteration, save the config with 'save as' close the config, reread the current config from the switch and start altering.
This way you always have a solution if you srew something up. I know the new manager saves a lot of *.bak files, but I like the idea of being in control and give the backupfiles some usefull names.

you might want to consider a login button on the "No User" user, then you don't need the shortcode really you press the button enter the extension number followed by * then the password and #. that saves you from remembering the login codes becasue all youhave to do is press the login button. It helps if you have a phone that displays the buttons like a 5410 and don't have 4400 series phones.

Thanks guys :) We only have one hotdesker, and it is back to being correct. I did think about going to a saved config after I deleted it and then they wanted it back and I couldn't remember how to make it work, but I was worried that I might blow it up and have to call the BP, something I did not want to do! I have made myself an instruction sheet this time, so if it happens again, I have a refernce.

If you did not make a backup like escorthosis then you can use the .bak file

Just rename the one you need to .cfg and send it to the ipo then after the reboot it is all the way you started (if you use the right one ofcourse)

tlpeter, thanks :) I didn't know about the .bak files until very recently. We had a blowup at one of my sites and the BP just INSISTED that I must have changed something. He went looking for .bak files, I now know probably to see if I was telling the truth, and lo and behold there were no changes, imagine that <g>. In the end he had to replace a piece of hardware, LOL!
