Hot fix location for Office 2000 error

I feel like I am going in circles on the MS site. Can anyone tellme where to get the hotfix for the following error:

Office 2000 "Detect and Repair" Process Generates Error Code 1931 (Q279177)

I have Win 2000 SP2 and IE 5.5 SP2

May be your problem is a Microsoft bug that would be repaired with the service pack found at Microsoft site?

The artical says exactly the fix I need, I just can't find it. I can't update MS Office and that is the problem. I can't even use the SR-2 until I get the fix I mentined. Thanks

and see if you can find that right version of DLL.


The article suggests to call MS.

Soonerland, your link took me to site with various links, which is where I was before I guess I am hoping that someone will point me to the exact location for this file.

rytl, I really appreciate that link, it was great, except it didn't have the right version that I needed.

i am having the same problem. i found this link,

which says that the problem rests with ie5.5 - i am inclined to believe this as i have heard lots of bad things tm about 5.5. try another ie mebbe?

i'm busy burying myself in hotfixes and other stuff right now, will post when i get it sorted out.

I guess I should have posted the solution, sorry. I just called microsoft, no charge and said that I needed that hotfix. He gave me a ftp site and a password and I downloaded and installed no problem. It is fixed!

Hi, Dawn!

At my place of work, we get this error quite frequently when repairing office.

We just click OK and ignore it and we haven't had any problems. (The reason we ignore it is that we have determined the message is not quite accurate)
