How do you change the hostname of the computer if you dont have netconf installed?

Hi,

This depends by distro - for Redhat you can just edit /etc/sysconfig/network and change the "HOSTNAME=' line. For some old apps you may need to also use /etc/HOSTNAME . I believe that the above anwser (/etc/host.conf) is correct for Suse linux, however.

i'm not a advanced linux user yet but etc/host.conf alsow works in the redhat 7.1
if i'm not correct just say it.

ok ok ok ok you're wright

thanks for explaning that for me

Hi,

Gauke - actually I didn't mean to imply what you said was wrong at all. There are often multiple ways of achieving the same thing in linux and that way may well work for redhat. So thanks for your post - I'll try it out...

Regards
