We have a special program that we use in the office that will only take the hostname not the domain name. For example it will only take the hostname abc123 instead of abc123.workcorp.com. Is there a way to input it into the dns server so the hostname will work just by itself?

There are two things that I can think of:

1 - add workcorp.com to your search domains. This way, a search for abc123 will automatically append the workcorp.com.

2 - add abc123 to your hosts file (in windows I think it is in = /windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts - not sure about the drivers part).

thanks for the responses noway. How would i go about the first option? (the second one is what we're currently using now). I am running windows server 2003 dns server
