Everytime I reboot my ANS500 running AIX 4.1.5 the server's name changes to "localhost" and I cannot launch the CDE. I have to do a failsafe login and change the hostname back along with tcpip min config and startup. Then logout, and the server name is back.
Why and how does this happen and what do I need to set to make it reboot with the name I've given the server?

Hi

tray to change manually hostname or update to a to iax 4.3, may be a bug.

lsattr -el inet0
chdev -a hostname=SERVER_NAME -l inet0

IBM only give support to aix 4.3 Saludos:

One other possibility (however unlikely); is your server looking for a DHCP server? I recently had a client ask me to figure-out why an RS6000 lost its IP address each tme it rebooted. Turned-out to be an un-hashed entry in rc.tcpip (/usr/sbin/dhcpcd) so the server booted with the correct configuration, only for that to be over-written by the config from the DHCP server.

I wonder if the server would revert to "localhost" if a DHCP server couldn't be ascertained.

Hi

How do you configure tcpip ?
I prefer to do all the network related stuff in smitty.
Check the /etc/rc.tcpip file

I use smit. I'm rather new to AIX/UNIX so when you say Check the /etc/rc.tcpip file, I'm checking for what? to see if the hostname is there? How do I make it stay after a reboot?
Thanks,
