Hello all:

I have configured my Windows 2000 server and would like to create a web site whcih I can access from any browser on the WAN with a URL like:
Where should the index.htm file be placed? I have kept it at the root level and in various folders in INETPUB but keep getting the UNDER CONSTRUCTION PAGE

Are there any services that must be running? If I get UNDER CONSTRUCTION message than I am encourged to believe that the localhost is adequately configured

Please help
Thank you!!

Make sure IIS is running...sounds like it is. Create a folder for your files in the Inetpub\ and place your files in there.

Open IIS Manager and create a new website. configure it to point to your folder and make sure the "index.htm' is listed as pages to search for when the page is hit. You can assign the ip address withing the setup window or leave it if it is the default ip address for the nic. You can disable the default webpage I believe, I can't remember off hand...

Try that.

Hello Hewissa and thank you for your reply!

Yes, IIS is running and my index.htm is at c:\Inetpub\
I am not sure how IIS Manager is opned and configured. Please help

Thank you

Start>Admin Tools>Interent Information Management (I think, doing this from memory....)

I wouldn't put my files in the to me thats like placing files on the c:\ root....I would make a folder for your site in the and store them there. Keeps things neat and organized.

Sounds like you have not "administered" the site, so by opening the IIS manager you will be able to configure it and have it operate properly.

What you need to do is this:
Open the Internet Services Manager - then, right click Default Web Site - Click the documents tab, then delete the default.htm from being the default file to be loaded, and add index.htm. It's just that windows like to use default.htm instead of index.htm as the main page.

Hello Hewissa and Chilleds!!

Thanks to you both for your help.... it worked
