Hosted Exchange redundancy

Client has hosted Exchange accounts with a major hosted provider. Server goes down and the client has hit and miss mail for two weeks; the provider was not overly worried, unlike the client (so much for 99.9% uptime). A couple of days of interruption is one thing, two weeks hurts a business. What would be a practical solution (or even somewhat practical) so the client is not totally dependent on the one provider? Could be another Exchange or POP provider.

A failover system using MX records and clustered servers.

What happened to their service level agreement that they didn't seem too concerned about up time or getting things going again? That would concern me greatly. Maybe want to switch hosted exchange providers!!

Considering mx record failover to another providers system, but not clustering. They already have clustering and that did not help.

Number 1, a provider switch is nasty, done it a number of times. Secondly they have provided excellent service until this incident. Lastly, I do not expect any provider to do better . What got me, no sense of urgency on their part, barely any communications about the issue, an attitude of we will fix it, eventually...then again they are mail providers.

Obviously not 'wide' enough though. Clustering for redundancy needs to be done over two or more data centres, with independent connectivity and IP(s) to each DC, so that MX priorities have something to work with.

Wide enough to dropout though. [bigsmile] Anyone who runs their business primarily via the Cloud is out of their minds; they should have been in NYC just following 911 to have a taste of running a business when the Cloud disappears.

It "dropped out" because I am assuming the servers were being 'clustered' with one provider.

Never mentioned "the Cloud"?

Hey Technome,

We Partner with company that layers over Exchange and offers 100% uptime in their SLA. Even if the Exchange goes down, the users can continue to send and receive emails. It doesn't matter if it's down for 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, or 1 year it will continue to send and receive. Once the server is back up everything will update automatically. Some of the other features include archiving up to 99 years, spam filtering (white/black/grey lists), and many other features. If you would like to hear more about it or set up a demo please feel free to reach out.

Best,
Justin

Thanks for the input, Chris. My intention is not to "Promote, sell, recruit, coursework and thesis post." He was asking for a solution to a problem. I merely suggested a solution. I receive zero reciprocation if he decides to use the product or not. I am here like everyone else, to discuss. My company currently uses this product and yes, we have a relationship with them as a customer. They have helped us immensely and saved us both time/money. I was unaware that making suggestions based on similar past experiences are not allowed.

Regards,
Justin

Certainly reads like a sales pitch, and given the fact that it is your very first post which makes it appear that you joined specifically to post it, gets the 'spidey senses' a little 'tingly'.
