Homepage rewrites to unwanted site after reboot. Cleared History, & Temporary Internet files. Didn't find any restrictions key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer, as mentioned in Homepage rewrite faq608-1148. Also, tried creating the control panel\Homepage key in HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.
Would there be an .ini file that the computer reads at startup, with an entry or command that is rewriting the homepage?

I'd suggest installing and then running the free spyware removal utility Adaware, found at Chances are pretty good it will help find the culprit.

Have tried Lavasoft's AdAware, problem still persists.

It's usually something in startup, mostly starting from the Registry.

Go to Start/run, and type Msinfo32, followed by OK.
Go to Software Environment/Startup Programs.
Click Edit/'Select all', and then 'copy'
Now paste the contents in your post.

Does it always change to a particular web page? I had this problem once, turned out I had a nasty virus from an email link. The home page problem was the least of my worries I had to reformat my computer because it destroyed a good portion of my files. Thank goodness for backups! Now I run PC-cillan too. I hope this isn't whats happening to you but you might want to check it out just in case.

Good luck

Use this first:

Then do this:

Correct your home page to the one you prefer, then immediately do the following:

Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Right-click on the Internet Explorer key, choose new>Key, name it Control Panel.
Right-click on the Control Panel, chose new>DWORD value, name it Homepage. Right-click
on Homepage, choose modify and type in the number 1.

This should lock your home page, so no other web site can change it.

Then navigate here and verify the homepage is correct:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
look for the Start Page entry.

On a Similar note, I hope someone can help me!? Explorer has set it's home page to and the option to change the homepage has been grayed out.

Anyone able to help me find out how to change it back to what I want.?

Regards

Dave
