Hi - I have a small home network consisting of Linksys Wireless Gateway wire connected to two desktops and two wireless laptops. All connected to internet OK and all can 'see' each other on the network. Problem is that the two desktops can transfer data to each other OK but not to the wireless laptops and vice versa. I also can't print from the wireless machines but can OK from the wired ones.
I notice that the properties button of the wireless network 'File and Printer Sharing' is greyed out and wonder if that's significant. Have tried with all firewalls disabled. Had to use memory keys to tranfer data last night - very annoying when there's a network present. Any help greatly appreciated - thanks in advance

Could be a few possible causes!

For the printer issue - what happens when you try to add a new printer, select network printer and then point to the PC it is attached to? Can you see the printer in the directory or do you get an error message?

Are the laptops set up to share files? Have you ran the windows networking wizard?

When I try to add a new printer it finds the PC but cannot find printer and I get an error message - I get an 'IP conflict error' message occasionally when another PC in the network is powered up, if that's significant
Laptops 'File and printing sharing for Microsoft Networks' is ticked but properties button is 'greyed out'

Network wizard runs OK to completion on all machines to no avail with the message 'network path not found'

Are you using static IP's? You could have the same IP assigned to more than one computer.

Also, check to make sure your wireless systems are actually logging on to your SSID, and not your neighbor's.

Right-click network neighborhood and install the file and print service and client for MS networks.

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!

(I do what I can with what I know)

Found out the problem - it seemed to have been caused by the Zone Labs Firewall settings in all machines. Strange one, because the setting have never been changed and everything worked OK with the previous wireless ASDL modem !!
Anyway thanks for your input and sugggestions - it's good to know that there is always good help and advice to be had on this forum. Thanks again - Del
