Hi, I'm sorry for being ignorant, but I just wandered if anyone could help me with setting up a CCNA simulation home lab.

I have 2 X 2501 routers, 1 3COM hub, 2 tranceivers, (and a switch 1912EN which I hope to use in the near future)

My computer has a RJ45, lan, com port male
I'm a bit new to all this, I would really appreciate some advice, thanks

If you have all that gear, there should be NO reason
why you can't pass the 640-607. Even when I took
Semester 5 in the spring, the standard labs can be
done with usually 3 routers (250x/2600) + 2 1600's
or 2 1700's, and since you have the 1912, see if you
can get your hands on one more 2500 and a 1924 (check
ebay for good deals). If you can get the IOS upgraded
on those beasts to 12.x for the routers (IP Plus/IPX/FW)
and version 9.0 for the 1912/1924, you will have enuf
gear to take you all the way through CCNP Routing
exam (640-603)). Good Luck!

Hi dogbert2, thanx for your info, like I said I'm really new to this, unfortunately I was wandering if you or anyone could advise on how to connect all this gear, I forgot to mention I have two tranceivers with rj45 leads, two b2b seriel leads no IOS, how do I connect all this up.

Thanks.

Generally, the console ports will connect to the com. ports on your computer
so you can access them via hyperterm, and you will need a RJ-45 to DB-9
connector properly wired to accept the rollover cable you will need to
plug into both the com port on the PC and the console port on the routers.

When you get the switch, you can connect the transceivers to the routers,
and then cable the routers to the switch, so that you have connectivity, or
since you have 2501's, you should have 2 serial ports on each, which can
be cabled together to form links. If you can visit your local Univ and ask
to see some cisco routers and how they are cabled together, it helps
quite a bit.

Hi dogbert2, will this work ?

when the two routers are connected via back 2 back seriel cable (seriel 1 db60 to seriel 0 db60) and,

two tranceivers from both router AUI ports plugged into 10baset ports (say 1 and 3 of the 1912 switch) and

the switch is connected from it's rear AUI port to the COM port of the PC (rollover/crossover cable) ?

Thanks

Sorry I meant in the last paragraph (Switch 1912 rear console to COM port of the PC)

Thanks
