One of my users laptop has suddenly gone berserk, and I'm not sure how to fix it.

In MS Word for example: (does same thing in Excel, PowerPoint, etc. - EXCEPT for Outlook when deleting a message)
When the user first highlights a selection, then presses the delete key nothing happens - instead, on the WORD status bar at the bottom, a message appears: Are you sure you want to delete: Y / N.
Then if the user presses the "Y" key, it will delete. Pressing the "N" key and nothing happens.

Perhaps related to this issue, (and easier to solve!) is that fact that the "Home" key doesn't work. If the cursor is in the middle of a sentence (again in Word, for example), and he presses the End key, the cursor goes to the end of the line. If the user presses the Home key nothing happens...

Help! I've never seen this before... Any ideas or suggestions of where to look would be greatly appreciated!

(I realize I post tough problems... :-D hopefully this one is easier to solve!)

Hi,

You have not indicated which version of Office is on the PC.

Your Word example used to be a WordPerfect simulation, so check Tools, Options, Compatibility in both Word and the similar settings (Transition) in Excel and verify that the settings are similar to those on other machines.

The Home key problems may have a similar cause.

Check how Notepad operates as it has its own fixed operating mode. If the Home key operates OK in Notepad then the problems are likely to be Compatability setings in Word and maybe Excel.

Good Luck,

Peter Moran

In WOrd, go to Tools, Options, General tab and deselect the WordPerfect options.

Thanks to both of you for helping out...

Peter Moran for the why and tf1 for the exact how

It works.

NoOneInParticular,

Was SomeOneInParticular helpful on this? [wink]

Play on words intended, of course.. [lol]

By the way, I like the name - it could make for interesting conversation: like, "Well, NoOneInParticular said....." at least when said verbally. [wink]

I must say that SomeoneInParticular has made several interesting comments on NoOneInParticular's name that are hardly appreciated...
