Iv created a users directory on the server. I shared it out
as users$ because I want it to be a private share. I then go into user manager for domains and put the users into the system and for their home directory I put connect v: to
\\servername\users$\%username%
When the user logs on it maps a drive to v:\servername\users$ and when you click on the v drive you can see all of the users folders and will also have access to all the users folders. Where did I go wrong?
Thanks in advance

try sharing the drive as \\server\%username%$ instead.
I don´t know if you can use multiple steps like \\server\share\share
I know we don´t.

the access thing must be the cause of wrong permissions.
Do you have NTFS as filesystem?
if yes. make sure that only administrator and the appropriate user have access to each %username% share by right-clicking each directory choose properties and then security
default, everyone has full control (stupid isn´t it?) /Sören

In the folder you shared as USERS$, create individual folders within it. These individual folders can have any name you like, but I use the username. Share each of these too with the username of the user to use that folder.

In the permissions of the share, allow the administrator group and the user themselves access. I allow administrator full control and the user change access.

Next go to the security tab for the folder concerened and set the folder and file permissions so that everone has full control. I found if you dont do this, the user cannot always access the area. strange.

In User Manager, set their home folder to be \\<servername>\%USERNAME%

That should do it. If not, you may need to create a logon script with the net use /home command:

net use v: /home

ok?

The connections option in user manager is for NTWS clients only, if you have win95 clients you will have to use the "net use" command and insert it into the users login script.
