Greetings!

I have tried "holdmusic.wav" for MOH on two systems now (one IPO 403 at 3.0.44 the other a IPO 406v2 at 3.0.59).

Even though I have reduced the volume of the .wav files several times (down to about 25% of the original volume or lower) the IPO still seems to boost their volume back up to a level that is uncomfortable for callers on "hold".

After every edit of the .wav file I replaced the "holdmusic.wav" with the quieter file and rebooted the IPO.

It has been tested with calls from a variety of phone sets which have been placed on hold.

With this in mind, are there any suggestions on how to effectively adjust the volume for the holdmusic.wav?

Thanks,
Mark

in windows go to assessories/intertainment/sound recorder open and re-record your MOH wav file. go to effects and reduce the sound level that solved my problem. you have to play around with it to get the correct level..cheers bg

No need to re-record, just choose reduce volume from the menu a few times and save...

send the file to me and i'll reduce it to the same as I use.

I think the IPO 27-28 sec. time limit to the .wav file is pretty limiting. The end/repeat transitions are abrupt, and I found I needed to edit the file to fade in and out.

I did the following to get music on hold working:
1) Downloaded trial version of "Total Recorder" from download.com. For 30 second spots, the demo version is free.

2) Set the record mode to 8KHz, 16 bit, MONO. Under "Recording source and parameters", select Sound Board. You may have to select a line out device in the dropdown, I used "default" and it worked fine.

Go ahead and play your source music or plug in a microphone for speech. Record the 25-28 second spot. (Anything longer will get truncated by IPO).

3) The Recording Level control will allow you to lower the volume of the source; I had it all the way down to -37db/ 1% and it came out nice.

4) Save the file as holdmusic.wav and put it in the "Manager" folder of IPO.

5) Reboot IPO.

*34 is usually the shortcode to listen to the result on a digital set speaker.

Thanks for your replies... much appreciated!
