Hold / Transfer problem - M7324 w/ CAP

I have a receptionist phone - M7324 w/ CAP module - that is beginning to act flaky.

For the last 3 days, once per day (usually in the morning) the phone will not work when trying to place a call on hold or transfering the call.

The fix so far has been to unplug both the set and the CAP, and then plug it back in.

This fixes it until the next day.

Anyone have any ideas what may cause this?

Is there a fix?
 
Is it while other calls are coming in or during higher call volume?
Try this: program a transfer key on the phone and use that instead of the softkey- especially if you have CLID and this is happening during higher call volume.

Program more IC's on the phone.

Replace the phone.
 
Here is more info on the problem:

1. Does not occur when call volume is at its highest, instead happens around 9-10am - when call volume is not very high.

2. When problem occurs, receptioninst cannot answer calls - handset does not work (ie.. cannot talk to caller, nor hear them).

3. Other calls are coming in while it occurs.

Also, phone has 8 line appearance buttons, and 2 I/C's.

It is an older style Meridian M7324.

Happened 3 times total, once per day on Fri, Mon, and today.

Odds are, you have a key starting to stick, and could be anyplace on the phone or cap.

I am going to take a look at the phone next time the problem occurs - to be sure the problem isn't user error.

Separately, MarvO1 - how would I clean the phone if it is a sticking button?

I remember a while back you refurb'd a phone for a test.
 
The best clue is to watch what is showing in the display.

The M7324 sets are the hardest to refurbish. especially the older models because they have melted plastic rivets that have to be replaced with screws, and re-alignment is very critical when reassembling.
There are many steps to completely rebuilding a set properly, especially if it has been wet.
You could get lucky and try turning the phone upside down and stroke all keys. It could be a dry stick from lint.
If that fails, replace it.

Use Feature 805 and run a button test, do it several times alternating buttons. Also, look under the keycaps, specially the ones with paper inserts, those tend to get stuck down. Check for keycaps that are not inserted all the way down; push hard on each one of them and see if you get any "clip" sound of plastic settling in place.
 
I would change port then change dn to that and see if port is going bad if not change the phone and cap. It may be a bad power suppl...
 
if the buttons are starting to stick tell the receptionist to where less MAKEUP, what do think their attending a catwalk. Alternatively use spray keyboard cleaner and a tooth brush if you dont fancey taking the phone apart
