HMC: managed system over a WAN

the p520 is located 2000km from a HMC. I connected directly to HMC port (I stay on p520 site) and from ASMI changed the IP for one of HMC ports to a static/"real" routable address being visible from a remote HMC via its "routable" address.

Will it reliably working LPAR-ing/DLPAR-ing on such distance? At least will it work? Can I add the p520 as a managed system to a remote HMC or it is strongly not recommended?

Its possible, but if you have a Hardware Problem you need local access to your hmc ( asmi ).
I don't think your ibm se don't like it.

Why you should place your hmc 200 km away ?

Currently I have 4 HMC's remote (400 miles) so far no problems , All accessed via ssh

the alone p520 is located 2000km from my location. in my location I have a several p570,p550,p520 for which I am using the HMC. And I need to manage the remote p520 using the same HMC as there is no HMC on remote site.

it is not a problem access my HMC via ssh. my question was if I can use my local HMC for managing really remote p520 machine (LPARing it, and everything I can do from HMC). The managed remote system p520 would not be connected using HMC's internal/dhcp'ed network but a "real" routed address.


Another/additional questions:
If I would have my remote p520 connected via routed network (not local/private HMC network) to my local HMC machine, then which ports and in which direction should be enabled on firewall located between the local HMC and remote managed system (p520)?

We have our servers and HMC on different floors and IBM didn't like it.They asked to move the HMC to the same floor or install a new one which is closer to the servers.

I manage Pseries on 3 datacenters 600km far from me , each datacenter has one HMC.
No problem.

You only need the websm client, and activate the ssh on the HMC
