My History folder is always empty. It will display the day of the week, but when I click on it, nothing happens. However, if I 'search' from within my history folder panel, it will come up with the sites I've visited, and I can click to link. Currently, it is set so it should keep history files for 8 days. The 'back' button and the address bar drop down appear unaffected. I've read it could be a conflict with McAfee VirusScan 6, but can't find any relevant support on that issue. Any thoughts? Thanks!

McAfee's site isn't too forthcoming with that info, but I proved it to myself. My wording may not be quite right because I don't have access to the machine in question right now. Get into the ViruScan configuration stuff. It's on the tabsheet just before or just after the HAWK settings. Down near the bottom, there is a place to uncheck something like either hostile active x applets or javascrip applets. Uncheck that and start browsing the internet - your history will be visible.

I'll try to remember to check the wording and where that setting is tonight.

Thanks, smah! It was the 'ActiveX Controls' under 'Internet Filters' that was apparently causing the problem. Too bad McAfee won't readily acknowledge it.

Glad you found it - now that I'm at that computer, I realized my wording/directions were pretty poor.

For anyone else reading: This is for McAfee VirusScan 6, IE 6, and maybe specific to Windows XP. Double click the McAfee VSheild icon in the system tray, near the bottom, click the button for 'Pick a task', Change my VirusScan settings, Configure VShield background scanning, Customize your VShield settings, pick the Internet Filter icon in the left column, uncheck the applet filters -ActiveX controls box. OK and close the VShield window.

Your IE history should now work as you expect. It's your choice if you want to run with this VS feature disabled or your History bar not functioning. I make no recommendation one way or the other, so don't blame me if something happens. ;)
