Can any one tell me the difference between a bar achart and a histogram? OOps what about a column char and a bar chart in excel

Column charts have data points running vertically whereas bar charts run horizontally. They are both histograms.

Histograms typicaly show counts of data that fall into a predefined bin or class.

An example would be ...

X axis
Grade range from 50 to 100 percent in "class" increments of 5 percent,... you set the "bin" or "class" size as you see fit.

Y axes
The counts of students who's grade(s) fall within those classes

those counts will always form a bell shaped curve.
and that is what makes a histogram different from just a bar chart.

Note "class" or bin refers to statistical lingo ... just so happens that this is a classroom example.
