Hi,

I'm hoping y'all can help clear up some confusion on my end. I see that Unify offers/offered the Hipath 4000 as well as the OpenScape 4000. Was this simply a re-brand or is there something especially different between the Hipath 4000 and OpenScape 4000?

Related, has the Hipath series been EOLd or is it still supported today? Specifically, the Hipath 4000, Hipath 5000, and Hipath 8000

EOL for ATOS/Unify is not cut and dry. They have varying levels, which actually make sense. First is Order Stop - date you can no longer order the product. Then there's Order Stop for Expansions - date you can no longer add on to an existing system. Then there's End of Development Support - your product is on limited support. Then lastly there's Phase-Out - good luck getting anything other than reseller support.

I believe after V6, the HiPath 4000 turned into the OpenScape 4000 V7. Now it's rebranded as Atos Unify OpenScape 4000 V10.

So here are those dates on the support portal... Order Stop / Order Stop for expansions / End of Development Support / Phase-Out
OpenScape 4000 V7 9/3/2017 5/30/2019 12/30/2019 12/30/2020
OpenScape 4000 V8 12/6/2020 12/5/2021 (planned) 3/30/2023 (planned) 12/30/2023 (planned)
Atos Unify OpenScape 4000 V10 (current)

OpenScape Voice V9 7/5/2020 7/4/2021 (planned) 7/3/2022 (planned) 1/7/2024 (planned)
Atos Unify OpenScape Voice V10 12/8/2019 (current)

I don't see the HiPath 5000 or HiPath 8000 listed in the "Products & Services Portfolio" on the Atos Unify Support Portal. So I'd venture to say they're EOL. Most of these are averaging 6-8 years from the date they're on General Availability until they're phased out. Kinda sad.

Thanks for the quick reply! Is it safe to assume OpenScape 4000 was simply a rebrand of Hipath with no significant changes?

I went from the HiPath 4000 V6 to OpenScape Voice V9, which was quite a leap. I do believe that they changed the processor when they went to the OpenScape 4000. So that was the significant change. I couldn't find a "roadmap" document, but in the overview document for the OpenScape 4000 V7, they say:

The cPCI system control will be replaced by EcoServer end of May 2015. The outcome of this is a few advantages for our customers.

 Reduced installation time due to SSD
 EcoServer can be optionally equipped with redundant power supply
 Higher MTBF of SSD (2M hours) versus HDD (0,5M hours)
 Less integration height of 19“ duplex architecture 3 EBT compared to 6 EBT of cPCI control
 Energy Star certified technology (with AC power supply)
 Due to higher performance additional application can be run alongside (in planning)

I also found this:
OpenScape 4000 can now be delivered as a virtualized application using VMware. This allows OpenScape 4000 to deployed as a private cloud from the customers data center

Sales Release (M2) for OpenScape 4000 V7

Effective November 11th, 2013 OpenScape 4000 V7 is released for direct and indirect sale in all HiPath 4000 V6 countries:

General release (M3) of OpenScape 4000 V7 for these countries is planned for November 29th, 2013.

Why OpenScape instead of HiPath?
This is more than a name change. It reflects the importance of the 4000 within the portfolio and the ability to tightly integrate with OpenScape UC. OpenScape 4000 as part of OpenScape Enterprise provides a future oriented system with comprehensive Unified Communications migration and connection options for the customer. The OpenScape Enterprise strategy continues the standardization process already in progress and offers with future enhancements the best evolution option for the customer and his existing infrastructure:
- Enterprise Licensing
- Harmonized license and offering structures for the whole solution
- Application interface enhancements

The following highlights will be made available with this release:

• VMware support
Version 7 supports the installation of the host system on VMware and offers the independence from server hardware, for the efficient usage in data center environments (required is vSphere 5.1 or higher). The release is planned in the first step only for Simplex deployments based on PSR (project specific release). This is to provide the necessary attention and development support for the first projects. The data center integration of OpenScape 4000 V7 offers a best migration option from existing standard server installations to VMware deployments. A general release including Duplex support is planned for OpenScape 4000 V7R1 (planned mid of 2014).

• OpenScape UC One Number Service
Due to functional enhancements all OpenScape 4000 system devices can be used as OpenScape UC ONS devices. E.g. OpenStage TDM, OpenStage HFA, OpenScape DesktopClient (Softphone) as well as OpenStage Cordless devices. Functionality provided includes:
- Call Control and device status after establishing an UC call
- UC preferred device functionality does not require a physically active ONS device
- and also the handover functionality of the UC client
The result is increased productivity and improved reachability of employees.

The general availability is planned for November 29th, 2013 and will be the subject of a separate sales release announcement.

• OpenScape Cordless Enterprise V7
DECT devices are now enabled to be a One Number device and can be controlled via CTI.
To meet the customer requirements according to a still higher security in communication technology the feature re-keying is now available. With re-keying the existing call connection will be re-encrypted every minute by using a new key and ensures a maximum of protection.
More information can be found in the sales information “OpenScape Cordless Enterprise V7”

• OpenScape 4000 SoftGate enhancement
OpenScape Access and OpenScape 4000 SoftGate are enabled to fulfill further requirements of different branch concepts offering the connection of up to 16 boards (previously 9). Due to this fact, branch concepts can be realized even more cost-efficient.

Additional features

• More than 5 simultaneous languages
Up to 5 different languages can be activate in every OpenScape 4000 location (host system or IP-branch). This enables the usage of one system in different countries
• Restricted call duration for transit calls
Effective cost control of expensive transit calls. This feature can also be used for reduction of bottleneck situations on transit routes.
• Support of Single Step Transfer for SIP gateways
OpenScape 4000 will make the necessary updates so that media flow will be optimized.
• Remote update for all Access Points
Significant reduction of service times during upgrades.

In short -
HiPath 4000 Went from V1 to V6
Then
OpenScape 4000 Went from V7 to V8
There was no V9 to catch up with OpenScape Voice (OSV)
Now we have OpenScape 4000 V10

Also Hipath 8000 became OpenScape Voice

This is a SIP only system (no TDM, analogue or HFA)

OpenScape Voice will do analog if you add an OpenScape Branch or a Mediatrix. Granted, it's not "built-in", but it does the job pretty good for those random analog lines you need. Once I figured out how all of the SIP telephony worked, I really didn't miss the HFA. I've only ever had a couple of TDM phones, so those were easy enough to flip over to SIP. If you have PoE switches, it makes your life so much easier. My OSV has been super reliable. The only issues I ever have with it are external - with network links or PRI circuits. VMware is your friend. [afro2]
