Hi
We have a HiPath 4000 v2 connected to a IPDA remote shelf at another location that we have to change the IP address on. Can I change the address on the IPDA from the main HiPath switch or do I need to go the remote end to change the address on the IPDA then change the address in the main. Also does anyone have the procedure for changing the address on the Hi
IPDA and the main switch.

Thanks

DIS-UCSU; Will show you the current shelves. I took this in school and I know how to add and delete shelves, but I don't remember if it is that simple as using CHA-UCSU to change it in the 4000. THIS WILL TAKE DOWN THAT SHELF for the duration, or until you fix it if you screw it up....

You would have to do DEA-USSU to shut down the shelf before trying anything.

To change the remote end I would suggest you go to the remote site and connect to the service serial port on the front of the NCUI card using a program like putty or Comwin. THIS MAY BE SPECIFIC TO NCUI4 CARD....

Connect 38400 8 N 1 for your settings, make sure the LAN1 cable is unplugged from the board.

Press Enter a few times to get Login

Use either TRM / HICOM or HICOM / HICOM depending on the version of the card.

Prompt = vxTarget
Type = show all parameters <Enter>

This will show you all the current board settings - WRITE IT DOWN or save it.

The parameters you probably care about are:

ip_addr_eth
netmask_eth
default_gateway

I do not recomment you mess with the signalling or any other parameters on the board as most of them refer back to your main site.

Remember - whatever IP address you are assigning must be properly routed so it can sent and receive traffic from the host 4K. If the new IP cannot route to the 4K it will not work.

To begin to destroy (I mean change) your board:

vxTarget = get write access <Enter>

vxTarget = set ip address ip_addr_eth aa.bb.cc.dd <Enter>

do the same thing for the other two parameters IF necessary.

vxTarget = finish <Enter>

vxTarget = release write access <Enter>

vxTarget = logout <Enter>

Disconnect cable from service port

Plug LAN cable into LAN1 port

The card should reload now. Give it at least 20 minutes before panic sets in. If you did everything right and you have already changed the 4000 end it should come up and work as expected after it loads.

Important: case and punctuation matters.

Disclaimer: This is information based on work I have done before at MY site to replace an NCUI card - I have never changed the IP address of a shelf. IT IS POSSIBLE it is not that simple and you might have to delete the entire shelf and put it back in - in which case you will first have to delete everything off of it, delete the shelf, recreate the shelf and then recreate everything that was on it. There are some things you can do to save time and back up data if you have to do that. I typed all this from memory and a few notes I have from class.

Don

Thanks for the info, now they decided not to do the IP change. I will keep the info just in case.

You would change the IP address of the IPDA with the APRT AMO, not UCSU. Once you've changed it with APRT you can then send it across to the IPDA with exec-ussu:updatap which will reload the shelf on the new IP address. You don't have to be at the IPDA site to do it, but you do have to be brave.

I would just like to throw one additional clarification out here just for anyone that finds this thread in a search....

CHA-UCSU is the proper way to do this for LOCAL shelves (those physically connected to the RTM backplane on the 4000 itself), and numbered 1 - 15.

CHA-APRT is the proper way to do this for REMOTE shelves (connected through the LAN, not directly connected to the 4000), and numbered 17 - 99.

Either way you still have to DEA-USSU before starting, and ACT-USSU after finishing.

The EXE-USSU command above is an additional command you have to do for remote shelves to push out the changes BEFORE you do the activate step.

If we are clarifying then I guess we should be clear.

There is no proper way to do this for local shelves. The question was "Can I change the address on the IPDA from the main HiPath switch". LTU's 1 to 15 are not relevant here. We are interested only in IPDA, shelves 17 and upwards.

To change the address of the IPDA, you must not DEA-USSU first. You can only EXE-USSU:UPDATAP when the shelf is in READY state. This will reset the shelf when complete.

Hi all

first you must change the ucsu , then next is to change the aprt
then change the apesu for the group of ipda
then after that go to ipda access the ncui unsing serial use telnet
user:TRM
passw:HICOM
then get write access = to access ncui
take note for changing of ncui disconnect all network connected to ipda because you can't save the changes

to easy acces ipda you are accesing the telnet now then go to macro then start CBL/macro bookmark
then click configure ipda

this is the gui for ipda it easy to acces..now click get all parameter then you can see the different ip address then you can now change the new ip address.. then save

thats all. :D
