Can some please assist me with a manual or procedure that details how to install and use the COLLECTING AGENT.

Additionally, can Performance Management (PM) only be used with HiPath 4000 Manager or can it be used as a standalone only using HiPath 4000 Assistant?

I'm pretty sure all the performance management, stats and reporting are all part of ProCenter and the switch doesn't have anything to do with it. The switch can do backup routing if ProCenter fails, but then there will be no call processing data. So you're pretty much stuck with Manager.

I AM making an assumption you're talking about agent and call center performance and not network performance. I haven't done much with network performance, but I have been in those screens once or twice.

I don't know what the Collecting Agent is, but assume it's for CDR data. When I asked about grabbing the CDR data on the 4000 they implied that I just had to access a specific port on the Atlantic LAN 12xx something I think, but don't remember. I think I have it in an E-Mail or written down someplace, but I don't recall them telling me there was an application for it.

I'll see if I can find my notes someplace if that's what you're looking for.

There is a nice "how-to" slideshow for CDR, Collecting Agent, and Performance Management available via the Siemens Training Center in Irving, TX. Perhaps someone who has attended the HiPath 4000 Advanced class (Texas only) in the last 5 years can share that slideshow here.
Performance Management (PM) is a rich reporting tool that is primarily used to generate historical traffic reports using CDR records as the data, but can also be used to measure system load via AMO ZAUSL. But since PM is a Unixware-based app, and CDR is stored within RMX, the "Collecting Agent" is needed to fetch the CDR data from RMX and make it available to the PM app. The mechanics of this process are complex. The Training Center slideshow not only shows how to configure each of the three components, but it also explains how it all works. It is highly recommended that only experienced and/or trained Siemens field engineers attempt to implement PM.

I just realized that I did not answer the original question:

PM can be used either via Assistant or the Manager - but not both simultaneously, due to limitations of the Collecting Agent. On the Manager, the Collecting Agent can fetch CDR records from numerous "networked" HiPath 4000 systems, and PM can then run traffic reports for the entire network.

At one point, the "networked" version of PM required a separate license, but I believe that now no additional license is required.

Hi donb01

Thanks for the reply, the Collecting agent is to do with the collection of CDR data. No relations with ProCentre on the system at this point.

A URL link to the file/presentation would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks Iamnotthere

Perhaps if you can post or give me a link to it. It will be appreciated.

Weird. I responded yesterday, but my post isn't here. So I'll do it again:

I will be glad to send the file to you individually. I cannot post it here. But, after you receive the file and verify its worthiness, feel free to post it here yourself.

Thanks Iamnothere, anyway of posting a link, bit worried about spammers getting my email addy. Anyway of uploading to free FTP site rapidshare?

I cannot explain the situation in this forum. I want to help, but my hands are tied regarding distributions. Sorry.

I know the frustrations.. moderators advised that I don't publicize my email addy for good reason. Anyway, don't worry about the distribution.

Do you know if the basic Performance Management (not PM-E or PM-N) can be used without the need of a HiPath 4000 Manager? If the PM-B can be used, then I will have a fiddle. I don't want to work on it, only to find that I need a HiPath 4000 Manager to get it working.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

It can absolutely be used without the Manager.

Any person who has attended HiPath 4000 training in Texas within the past 5 years should have this CDR/COL/PM slideshow.

If you can think of an alternate method where I can send the slideshow to you and ONLY you, please post it. It's a copyright issue.

Hi Iamnotthere

We can try FTP-server I just created. I will remove the files after receiving it.

FileZilla client:

Details...
Hostname: "ftpX.NoFeeHost.com"
UserID: "FLAME888"
PW: "hopeitworks"

Please can you put it in the HiPath4000 folder

Thanks a mil!

I put two files there. They are both "pps" files, which you open in PowerPoint.

Use the COL_PM file to get details on how to configure CDR, Collecting Agent, and PM. Be sure to click every BLUE link, because that's where additional info is hidden. There are no viruses or any surprises!

In case you want to see how CDR and Collecting Agent works, use the other file: CDR_COL.

Good luck, and feel free to contact me using the email address you find embedded in the COL_PM file.

Thanks Iamnothere

This document is excellent! Some good information:) Just what I was looking for.
