Has hijacked my Internet Explorer; how do I get rid of this?

I am running XP Home.

hodge, my first solution to you would be to read up on this Great FAQ: faq608-4650.

Most likely, CWShredder will remove the hijacked browser, but following through with the steps in the FAQ will ensure that your site is fully cleaned out. Hopefully that will do it for you.

JCrou82, I am not hodge but I do appreciate the cite; I will look it over and if (as it seems) this is the way to go, I will give you a star.

Thanks for your quick reply....

Kill Topotun (very difficult)

1. Use your firewall program to block IP Address: 69.50.184.50
These are the offending URLs
free.hcworld.com
terra.hcworld.com

...

I upgraded my McAfee Firewall and followed rule #1 (above) on that website. So far, so good.

I will keep you updated!

JCrou82, I gave you a star because the cite to the FAQ was very helpful.

Actually what I did was was update LavaSoft's AdAware and ran a deep registry scan (among other things). I also deleted winlgn.exe (sometimes it is called winlogon.exe or winlogin.exe) from my startup menu.

So far, so good.

i didn't want to post a new thread on this because my problem is similar, but i resolved the hijack problem and it resulted in another one. i hope someone can point me in the right direction before i consider re-formatting my hard drive.

i cleaned out the bad objects with hijackthis, cwshredder, adaware, spywareblaster, and spybot. this was when my current problem started. i can dial in and pull up the internet with ie6 but cannot use DSL. i think i may have done something wrong when i cleaned out the objects in hijackthis (and i could kick myself for not keeping the archive). i tried winsockfix and lspfix but have not gotten anywhere. i am using windows 2000 pro and ie6 on a business laptop.

i wish i knew more about the winsock and other details that may be needed to solve my problem, but if anyone can help, i would GREATLY appreciate it.

Describe in detail any error messages or symptoms you receive when trying to use DSL.

Post an Ipconfig /all for the DSL connection.

I'm sure u've already tried this but I'm going to post it anyways. You could try to reset your router, switch/hub if any, and your pc. If this doesn't work, then follow bcastner's suggestions.

i reset my router and still nothing, but when i went into my DNS server addresses, they were reset to zero - never thought to look at that to start with ... everything is fine now. thanks for your time!
