i've installed the card and drivers with no problem...the pc recognizes it and it is listed in the hardware profile....but when i plug a device into it (usb external storage key or cd-rw) it doesnt even recognize that something is plugged in....i have a usb 1.1 hub that these devices are plugged into and they work fine....does anyone know what can be wrong (by the way there are no conflicts as far as i am aware)

Check in Device Manager for any conflicts or problems with the card.
It any are present, then insert the USB card in a different slot.

If that does not work or there are no problems in DM, then the USB card may be defective. Return it for a replacement.

You dont say what os you are using.
If its win xp and if its also usb2 then you may have to have win xp sp1 installed.
So, you see, there is info missing.
Also, if there are issues showing up in device mgr, please tell us what they say.
If there end up being issues in device mgr, and win xp, and sp1 installed, then you may have to either move the card to the first pci slot or take out other pci cards, install the usb2 in the first pci slot, reboot and see if its ok then re-install other pci cards one at a time.
There is another post here recently, last few days, where person had the same problem and i suggested moving the usb2 pci card to the first slot and problem solved. I will see if i can find it for you.

thanks everyone for the support...i am using win me...and there are no conflicts whatsoever anywhere...everything says the sard is installed properly and is recognized everywhere.....the only real problem is that it soent recognize anything plugged into it...i noticed some cards have power plugs plugged into them...this one does not need a power plug....it is a compusa usb 2.0 card but the drivers are ali.....

If it does not work in any of the slots, then see if it works in another system.

If not, then it's probably bad.

Have you moved it to all the pci slots you have?
Generally these work best in the first slot. Dont know why that is but its been my experience. Although, it does appear the card is just no good.
Also, you just mentioned that it has the ALI chipset. Unfortunately i have seen enough documented problems with the USB2.0 AlI chipset both at this forum and others that I stay away from thst ALI chipset.
Wonder if you can return it?

I don't think that your will get drivers to support USB2.0 under WinME. But the card should still work in USB1.1 mode.
You say the system sees the board, but nothing happens when you conenct a device to the card? You may run out of interrupt lines. Under ME you have a limited number of IRQs available. If the IRQs conflict, the system will see the devices, but the drivers may fail to work properly. Some do some don't.
Search in these forums, there have been numerous threads about adding USB2 boards. I'm sure your issue is a similar one.

Thats why i sent him here:

Same prob, same card, same everything pretty much. The only difference is here he is using winme and will only get usb1.1 instead of usb2.0.

Follow the last instructions given in that post, remove all pci cards and reboot and turn computer off. Install the pci usb card first and boot up and get it going with drivers for winme, then install sound or other pci cards you have.

But if there were an irq problem it should show up and you said there were no conflicts, right?
Have you checked system configuration to see the irq's there and see if there are any listed problems there?

PCI resources that are assigned the same IRQ lines will not necessarily be shown as problematic by WIndows.
In theory PCI interrupt lines CAN be shared, so Windows assumes that the drivers are well written. In practice this is not always the case.
Moving the PCI cards changes the order in which they are detected thus changing the assigned resources. It may also parallel different IRQ lines, for which the drivers cope better with each other.
