I would like to know what would cause high random access times on my SATA and IDE hard drives - all are 7200 WD's with 8mb cache. I have 875 chipset, 3.0 intel, and 1 gig memory. The time I'm getting from Sandra 2007 is 23ms!
I ran HD Tune and received the following info for my SATA dirve:
HD Tune: WDC WD1600JD-55FYB0 Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 27.1 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 54.3 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 45.0 MB/sec
Access Time : 21.6 ms
Burst Rate : 67.4 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 3.9%
I'm getting a new drive today and want to make sure that I don't have any issues/bottlenecks.
It's connected to the Intel ICH5R chip onboard. RAID is not enabled. I have since connected a new SATA drive (wd 250g 16mb) and am getting 16ms with it after moving everything off of the 160g drive to it. I then formated the 160g drive and am still getting 22ms access time with nothing on it!
