My monitor does this when I turn it on, and it comes in and out though. However I have found that if i push down on the top of the case, the noise stopps, so right now I have a book sitting on top of it. It's a very high pitched noise, very annoying. Any ideas as to what's causing it? Should I get a new monitor (warrenty replacement)?

I have had more than a few ( We have about 100 user's here) that did this same thing (also some of them the screen would sort of fade in and out when the user would click on a application). Sooner or later mine all past on (off to the great big junk pile of broken pc parts in the back ...A.K.A. the ship yard:. I would suggest since it is under warranty...get a new one.

Ppl with very good hearing hear it all the time...yes there is a problem with your monitor and it will likely only get worse.
It's a hassle isn't it, waiting for the RMA to process?
BUT it's a necessary evil.

If it's still under warranty, then definitely have it replaced.

This only works if the sound fade out after the monitor warms up.

As the problem is just the High Voltage (Red Wire going to the CRT Tube) is just to close to to some thing inside the case that is setting up a feed back hum.

To fix it Turn off the monitor. Remove the two - four screws holding the back of the case to the Bezel (front of monitor) undo / untie the High voltage wire from the cable bundle that it is routed though, and move it away from the cable bundle it is routed with. With the case off plug the monitor back in turn on listen for the hum/whine, if it is still there you move the wire around untill it dissapears. Yes you can do this when it is turned on as the wire is insulated.

egraves,
I can't help but wonder if there is something mischevious about your handle!!!

Some mistakes in life you learn from - Some mistakes will kill you.

Don't mess with stuff that is best left to someone qualified to deal with it - Which kpdvx obviously isn't.

Regards.
It not what you say but how you say it that counts...apparently.

EGRAVES, I agree with WIN98USER. Your advise (probably meant with good intentions) is reckless. Especially since
you didn't mention the FIRST safety step when screwing around inside a monitor.

KPDVX, I would replace the monitor.

Only someone who's experienced the hot end of the six-figure voltage stored in there would tell you how reckless!
